Tyrereviews 2009/10
The respected tyre review site offers an annual review of all the tyre tests carried across Europe with the addition of user feedback
2010 tyre of the year - Continental Sport Contact 5 P
They say: “It’s no surprise the tyre of the year came from the brand of the year. New for 2010, the ContiSportContact 5 P took part in just 3 tyre tests in 2010 but managed to win two, and score a very close second in the 3rd. The Sport Contact 5P has also received almost flawless praise on TyreReviews.”
Tyremen say: “The Conti Sport Contact 5 certainly seems to be a fantastic tyre! As with all the ultra-high performance tyres in the Conti range you have a product that is focused on safety and offers unrivalled wet & dry braking performance. However, you need to be prepared that this level of performance comes at the expense of longevity."
Other 2010 highlights of the review
2010 mid-range tyre of the year - Hankook Ventus S1 EVO
They say: “It’s always a nice surprise when a smaller brand manages to compete with the premium brands, and this year mid-range brand Hankook have done just that with the S1 EVO. Winning the AMS summer tyre test, the S1 EVO has scored well in nearly every tyre test it entered in 2010.”
Tyremen say: “We have been big supporters of Hankook for a few years now and they are a great brand, the fact that they keen winning OE work with the likes of Ford & Audi is testament to this quality. The S1 Evo appears to compete with the big boys and offers great dry performance in addition to being very quiet. We think that wet performance could be better though and to be fair in this country that is an issue.
2009 tyre of the year - Uniroyal Rainsport 2
They say: “The only thing that will grip better would be a track tyre... Stunning wet grip and all the dry grip you'll ever need! Have done 50+ laps of the nurburgring on this set of tyres in wet and dry conditions plus four UK track days, fantastic!"
"Wow... never going to buy another tyre again as long as they make this tyre..."
"These Uniroyals are the best thing since sliced bread..."
"Somehow as good as all the reviews say..."
We say: “These tyres really are that good! Here at Tyremen we love mid-range tyres that punch well above their weight and this is certainly the case with the Rainsport 2. They are sensibly priced, last a long time and offer superb all-round performance. On a personal note Carlin Jnr (Tyremen author, director) is running a set of these at the moment and they are truly superb. Only issue would be a slight increase in road noise but when it rains they offer a ridiculous amount of grip and assurance.”
