Evo summer test 2010 - 2012
Evo car magazine run an annual max performance tyre test
Summer tyre test 2012
This year Evo carried out an ultra high performance test in 235/40R18 using an Audi S3. The test also included points for 'subjective feel' which helped separate some very close results.
1st - Continental SportContact 3
2nd - Hankook Ventus S1 evo
3rd - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
4th - Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3
5th - Pirelli P Zero
6th - Bridgestone Potenza S001
7th - Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT
8th - Vredestein Ultrac Cento
9th - Kumho Ecsta KU39
10th - Accelera PHI
They say "Continental Sport Contact 3 - an impressively complete performance.
Although the Hankook S1 Evo only managed a single top place (its subjective feel on the dry track) the rest of its results were strong enough to give it a close second behind the Conti and a whisker ahead of the Goodyear.
Googyear - Outstanding in the dry, pulling the highest lateral G and shortest dry braking. Also very good in the wet just 0.8% slower than the Conti. Highly rated subjectively, a great all round tyre.
The new Pilot Sport 3 scored well objectively in all tests. Slightly let down by its subjective feel, EVO still recommend it as a great all round tyre, having the best blend of comfort and precision on the road.
Tyremen say "The Continental Sport Contact 3 really can do no wrong when it comes to tyre tests at the moment, 2 years on and again grabs the Evo magazine top spot. The stand-out result for us is an extremely strong 2nd place for Hankook. Mid-range in terms of price but top class in performance, you only need to look at the big name competitors further down the list to see that the S1 evo really means business. Hankook are now being fitted to BMW as standard fit, as a company they are going from strength to strength. The Vredestein didn't do so well this year, however the Ceno is not really designed for Audi S3's, we would have like to have seen the performance the the Sessanta on this car."
Summer tyre test 2011
This test is carried out by UK motoring magazine Evo, it used a Mazda MX5 running on 205/45R17 on a test track in Hannover, Germany.
1st – Continental SportContact 3
2nd – Uniroyal Rainsport 2
3rd – Vredestein Ultrac Cento
4th – Bridgestone Potenza RE050-A
5th – Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2
6th – Yokoham Advan Neova AD08
7th – Kuhmo Ecsta Le Sport KU39
8th – Hankook Ventus V12 Evo
9th – Zeetex HP103
They say “An emphatic win for the new Continental, it delivered several table topping results. The stand out result being wet handling, but the tyre also showed great wet and dry braking performance. The Uniroyal and Vredestein were very closely matched and offered great all round results. Both products were noted for exceptional wet performance, with the Uniroyal just pipping the Vredestein to second place with better feel and feedback.
Tyremen say ”Another well-deserved win for Conti with the SportContact 3 which will fail to disappoint. We are huge fans of both Uniroyal and Vredestein and is great to see them performing so well and beating other premium products, Bridgestone & Michelin. The Uniroyal also offer great longevity and are great value for money. The budget offering was very poor and Evo described them as, “Dreadful – avoid at all costs” our thoughts exactly when it comes to budget tyres.
